Who Is Ali Raza Khaki?
Ali Raza Khaki is a medical oncologist and Clinical Assistant Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine who regularly serves on the inpatient oncology service at Stanford Hospital. He is also part of the well-known Khaki family, who operate their own philanthropic organization.
At the same time, Ali Raza Khaki has stepped into one of the most polarizing geopolitical debates in the world. Since the start of the Israel–Hamas war, he has used his platform to criticize Israeli policies in Gaza and endorse unsubstantiated or one-sided claims. His posts frequently describe the war as “genocide”.
Accusing a country of genocide is a sharp and noticeable accusation. And when that accusation comes from a Stanford physician involved in visible philanthropy, it carries institutional gravity.

- June 28, 2025 – Khaki reposted an unsubstantiated conspiracy theory, which was stated as having been confirmed by “Gaza authorities”, that the United States was embedding opioids into the food aid it sent into Gaza in order to create mass drug-dependency.

How Has Ali Raza Khaki Used His Stanford Affiliation to Influence Political Opinion?
In September of 2024, Ali Raza Khaki signed a petition demanding “an end to Stanford’s complicity in genocide.” It demanded that Stanford Medicine recognize and condemn Israel’s “genocide” in Gaza, stop buying from companies complicit in war crimes, divest from them, support Palestinian medical care and education, and protect free speech for pro-Palestinian voices; it was also signed by other Pro-Palestinian medical professionals at Stanford, such as Ala Soofian.

His name was later deleted from the public signatory list, signaling awareness that the association was controversial at best.
Conclusion: How Can Ali Raza Khaki’s Activism Impact Stanford?
Ali Raza Khaki is a Stanford oncologist with significant clinical responsibility whose neutrality in the face of a public record of accusing Israel of “genocide” must be questioned. When a physician, especially one associated with a public and connected family, takes one side of an intensely polarizing conflict, it can rock confidence among patients and colleagues alike. It may also cast a shadow over philanthropic or humanitarian initiatives tied to his name, particularly if those efforts are perceived as politically influenced.
The issue isn’t free speech. It’s judgment. And at a place like Stanford Medicine, judgment is everything
