Alithia Zamantakis is a Research Assistant Professor in Medical Social Science who has actively engaged in radical anti-Israel activism. She participated in illegal campus encampments, spread antisemitic rhetoric, and repeatedly glorified terrorists while framing Israel as an apartheid and genocidal regime.
Participation in Encampments and Arrest
In 2024, Zamantakis took part in the illegal pro-Palestinian encampments at Northwestern University. She was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor for obstructing a police officer. In response, she claimed that “they” were trying to silence her, while justifying her actions as being “in accordance” with resisting a “genocide.”
Glorification of Terrorists and Martyrs
Zamantakis has used her social media to glorify individuals tied to terror groups. In July 2024, she retweeted a PSL (Party for Socialism and Liberation) post reacting to the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas’s former political leader. In her own words, she wrote “Glory to all the martyrs,” explicitly celebrating Hamas terrorists. In May 2023, she again praised “the martyrs” and called for “victory to the revolution,” while accusing Israel of genocide and apartheid for the past 75 years.
Endorsement of BDS and Anti-Israel Petitions
In April 2024, Zamantakis called on her followers to sign and support a BDS petition. She also signed multiple petitions accusing Israel of apartheid, genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and harassment of anti-Israel voices, including one in October 2023—just days after Hamas’s massacre in Israel.
Demonization of Israel and Zionism
Zamantakis has repeatedly demonized Israel, labeling it an “apartheid regime” and accusing it of genocide. On October 15, 2023, barely a week after Hamas’s massacre, she accused Israel of genocide and ethnic cleansing. Just three days after the massacre, on October 10, 2023, she posted that Illinois stood with “Palestine against apartheid and genocide,” while invoking the slogan “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free”—a chant widely regarded as genocidal.
In July 2023, she claimed that Israel and Zionism created a colonial apartheid regime that “robbed millions of their homes and lands, and slaughtered countless people.” She went further by asserting that Zionism itself is the root cause of antisemitism, an inversion tactic that shifts blame away from antisemitic violence and onto Jewish identity and self-determination.
Support for Authoritarian Regimes and Anti-Israel Protests
In December 2023, Zamantakis openly expressed support for Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon—countries aligned with terrorist organizations—claiming they were resisting Israel’s “apartheid regime.” In October 2023, as part of a PSL initiative, she helped organize a trip from Chicago to Washington, D.C., to protest U.S. support for Israel during its war against Hamas.
Conclusion
Through her participation in illegal encampments, glorification of terrorists, and repeated spreading of antisemitic rhetoric, Alithia Zamantakis has aligned herself with extremist activism that undermines campus safety. By labeling Israel as genocidal while excusing Hamas terrorism, she contributes to a hostile academic environment where Jewish students are delegitimized and antisemitism is normalized.
